We choose our outdoor bollard lights based on how they will actually be used.
For garden paths and planting, lower-level bollards provide useful pathway lighting without overpowering the space. Around a driveway or entrance, directional driveway bollard lights can help define the route and illuminate the ground while keeping glare under control.
Our range takes a different approach to the rows of near-identical fittings found elsewhere. You will find natural materials, distinctive shapes and lighting designed to become part of the garden rather than simply being added to it.
If you are planning lighting at different levels around a garden, our in-ground lighting can be used alongside bollards around paths, planting and paved areas.
Handmade Oak Bollards and Wooden Bollard Lights
Our oak bollards are one of the most distinctive parts of the range.
Made from solid oak, each bollard has its own natural grain and character. Our wooden bollard lights are particularly suited to landscaped gardens, gravel driveways, paths and planting where timber sits naturally alongside the surrounding materials.
Selected designs are made from 100 x 100mm or 125 x 125mm oak and are available in different heights and top profiles. The timber is supplied oiled with Osmo UV protection to help protect and bring out the natural finish.
Rather than sending light out in every direction, many of our wood bollard lights use an angled LED to direct light down towards the path, driveway or surrounding ground.
We also offer designs suitable for more exposed coastal environments, as well as stone bollard lights for customers looking for another natural material.
LED Bollard Lights with a Choice of Light Colour
Our LED bollard lights give you practical outdoor illumination with lower energy use and a long operating life.
Depending on the product, you can choose warm white or natural white LED lighting.
Warm white creates a softer effect around timber, planting and garden paths. Natural white gives a clearer light and can work particularly well around entrances and driveways.
Selected bollards are available as:
- 12V bollard lights
- 24V bollard lights
- Low-voltage bollard lights
- 230V / 240V bollard lights
- Mains-powered bollard lights
If you are creating a wider low-voltage garden lighting system, take a look at our Plug & Play garden lighting.
Always check the individual product specification before ordering, as voltage and installation requirements vary between designs.
Why Our Outdoor Lighting Starts at IP65
Outdoor lighting has to cope with rain, dust and changing weather, so we pay close attention to the IP rating of the products we offer.
Our outdoor lighting range starts at IP65.
That gives our lights a higher level of protection against water and dust than commonly available IP44 outdoor fittings, which is particularly important for lights installed in exposed garden and driveway locations.
It also reflects the way we choose products at The Outside Lighting Specialist. We would rather offer a considered range designed for genuine outdoor use than expand the collection with lower-specification fittings simply to provide more choice.
Bollard Lights for Driveways
Driveway bollard lights can help define the edge of a driveway, highlight an entrance and guide people towards the property after dark.
Directional lighting is particularly useful here because the beam can be aimed towards the ground rather than producing unnecessary glare.
As a general starting point, bollard lights are often positioned around 2.5 to 3 metres apart, although the right spacing depends on the brightness, beam angle, height of the light and layout of the driveway.
Think about vehicle movement too. Bollards should be positioned away from turning areas and places where opening vehicle doors could strike them.
If you would rather keep the fitting flush with the surface, our driveway recessed lights offer an alternative for paving, driveways and entrances.
Choosing Bollard Lights for Your Garden
There is no single bollard light that works for every garden.
Start with what you want the light to do.
If you are illuminating garden paths or planting, look for a controlled beam that keeps the light close to the ground. For a driveway, consider visibility, beam direction and the position of vehicles.
Then think about how the fitting will look during daylight.
Solid oak and other timber bollard lights work particularly well within natural landscaping, while stone bollards offer another option for gardens and driveways where a softer material finish is preferred.
The light colour matters too. Warm white can create a more relaxed garden atmosphere, while natural white can provide clearer illumination around pathways and entrances.

Bollard Lights FAQs
What are the best bollard lights for a garden?
The best garden bollard lights depend on what you want to illuminate and where the fittings will sit. We normally recommend considering the IP rating, beam direction, light colour and how the material works with the surrounding garden.
Oak bollards are particularly suited to natural landscaping, while directional LED bollards work well where you want controlled light across paths or planting.
How far apart should bollard lights be?
Around 2.5 to 3 metres can be a useful starting point, but bollard light spacing depends on brightness, beam angle, height and the shape of the path or driveway.
We recommend planning around where the light actually falls rather than using identical spacing regardless of the fitting.
Are LED bollard lights suitable for driveways?
Yes. LED bollard lights are a good option for driveway lighting because they provide efficient, controlled illumination at a relatively low level.
Directional designs can illuminate the driveway surface while helping to avoid excessive glare.
Should I choose low-voltage or mains-powered bollard lights?
Both can be suitable depending on your lighting scheme.
12V and 24V low-voltage bollard lights work well within many garden lighting systems. Mains-powered bollards may be more appropriate where suitable permanent outdoor wiring is already being installed.
Check the specification of the individual light and use a suitably qualified electrician where required.
How much do bollard lights cost?
Prices depend on the material, size, LED specification and design.
Our collection includes several options and price points, including made-to-order solid oak bollards. You can see current pricing and availability on the individual product listings above.
